PENANG, 6 December 2013 – NS BlueScope Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (“BlueScope”) has announced that it will aggressively expand its retail segment through the latest line-up of its SIRIM Eco-Label certified BlueScope ZACS® steel, offering eco-conscious homeowners greater accessibility and options for sustainable roofing solutions.

The announcement is part and parcel of BlueScope’s AUD$20mil investment into its Malaysian midstream operations to upgrade its in-line painting technology. It also expects to grow its current painting line production capacity of 60,000 tonnes per annum by 20 per cent.

Speaking at the launch, BlueScope’s President for Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei, Mr. Pongsak Padungkarn said that the expansion will bolster BlueScope’s market leadership in Malaysia. “We have been in Malaysia for over 40 years and have established a strong position in the premium project segment. By expanding our existing retail portfolio and strengthening our relationships with our dealers, we hope to increase our penetration rate and grow the business by 10 percent,” he said.

BlueScope’s ZACS® steel range of aesthetic roofing products comprise of aluminum and zinc alloy-coated steel that is more corrosion resistant than zinc coated  steel (GI). Depending on insulation, studies have shown that BlueScope ZACS® steel can keep indoor temperature of houses 2.5 °C to 6 °C cooler compared to similar houses with red-tiled roofs. By keeping home temperatures low, consumers can enjoy cost-savings from air-conditioning and reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) and chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) emissions.

Every square meter of BlueScope ZACS® Steel is also coated with minimal 90g of aluminium and zinc for protection against corrosion, a quality assurance that has been validated by SIRIM. With 20 colours of varying hues to choose from, homeowners no longer need to compromise aesthetics for the sustainable choice.

“We understand from dealers that many homeowners today are more hands-on in the construction and renovation process. They are more well-informed on materials and often inquire about the warranty, coating, and if a product is green label certified. We hope to play our part in spreading the awareness by working closely with our dealers to continue educating both homeowners and contractors alike,” added Pongsak.

BlueScope ZACS® steel’s products are available through selected dealers nationwide. At current, the company has close to 1,000 dealers in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah & Sarawak.

BlueScope is the first and only coated steel manufacturer in Malaysia to have been conferred the SIRIM Eco-Label certification. The company is also accredited with the Quality Management System ISO 9001 and Environmental management System ISO4001 by Lloyd’s.

BlueScope’s products are used in some of Malaysia’s most iconic buildings including the Petronas Twin Towers, Ikano Power Centre, TESCO, Pusat Tenaga’s Green Energy Office (GEO) and the Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) 2.
